The Indian Coast Guard conducts Operation Olivia every year to rescue Olive Ridley turtles and protect their habitat.

This operation was launched in December 2020 in collaboration with the Odisha State Forest department and the Odisha State Forest Department and the Indian Coast Guard.

Operation Olivia is an annual effort by the Indian Coast Guard to protect endangered Olive Ridley turtles during their nesting season along Odisha’s coast. Taking place from November to May, it includes patrolling, surveillance, educational campaigns, and rescue operations to shield the turtles from dangers such as poaching and accidental entanglement in fishing nets. The main nesting sites are the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary, Devi River mouth and Rushikulya Rookery. This operation demonstrates the Coast Guard’s dedication to marine conservation and the protection of vulnerable species.

Operation Sard Hawa is a routine exercise conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) to prevent infiltration in defense fog on the Western International Border of Rajasthan. This operation is organized every year in the last week of January, between 21st 27th .

This operation continues for a week keeping in mind the Republic Day of India.

Operation Bandar was a crucial part of the Balakot Strike carried out by the Indian Air Force (IAF). Launched in February 2019, the operation aimed to target terrorist infrastructure in Balakot, Pakistan. It was a precision airstrike conducted by the IAF’s fighter jets, specifically targeting terrorist training camps operated by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The operation was a response to the deadly Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 40 Indian paramilitary personnel. Operation Bandar was a significant step in India’s efforts to combat terrorism and safeguard national security.

Operation Devi Shakti was initiated by the Ministry of External Affairs in 16 August 2021 with the primary goal of evacuating Indian nationals stranded in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. The operation was launched in response to the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul. It involved coordinated efforts by various government agencies, including the Ministry of External Affairs, to ensure the safe evacuation of Indian citizens from the conflict zone. Operation Devi Shakti exemplified India’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad during times of crisis.

In October 2019, the Railway Department launched Operation Thunder to counter the black marketing of reserved tickets. The operation aimed to address the issue of illegal ticket reselling and promote fair access to railway tickets for all passengers. By targeting individuals engaged in the unlawful resale of reserved tickets at inflated prices, Operation Thunder sought to eliminate fraudulent activities within the railway ticketing system.

The CBI launched Operation Garuda in May 2021 to accelerate the sharing of criminal intelligence concerning drug trafficking. This initiative aims to improve collaboration among law enforcement agencies to effectively address the issue of drug trafficking. By enabling the rapid exchange of vital information, Operation Garuda Mission seeks to bolster endeavors in identifying, intercepting, and prosecuting individuals engaged in drug-related offenses.

In September 2020, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted Operation AAHT to protect women and children from smugglers. This initiative aimed to address the rising issue of human trafficking and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals, especially within railway areas. By targeting smuggling activities, Operation AAHT aimed to enhance passenger safety, particularly for those vulnerable to exploitation or trafficking. Under this operation, special teams are deployed on all long distance trains and routes.


The Andhra Pradesh government launched “Operation Parivartan” to eradicate the cultivation and distribution of cannabis within the state. This operation commenced in June 2021 with the primary objective of curbing the illegal production and trafficking of cannabis, thereby addressing associated social, health, and law enforcement concerns. Led by the concerned state departments in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, Operation Parivartan aimed to eliminate the cultivation and supply of cannabis, promoting public safety and well-being across Andhra Pradesh.

Operation Samudra Setu was an operation of the Indian Navy. It was launched on May 5, 2020 to bring back Indian citizens stranded abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa, Airavat, Shardul and Magar participated in the operation.

“Samudra Setu II” refers to the second phase of Operation Samudra Setu, which was initiated by the Indian Navy. It was launched in May 2021 with the purpose of repatriating Indian citizens stranded abroad due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The operation aimed to provide a safe and efficient means of transportation for Indians stranded in various countries, helping them return home amidst travel restrictions and lockdown measures. The Department of Defence and the Indian Navy led this initiative, reflecting the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens during times of crisis.

Operation Sankalp was executed by the Indian Navy in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman to ensure the safety of Indian ships. The operation began in June 2019 with the purpose of safeguarding Indian-flagged vessels and merchant ships from potential threats such as piracy, terrorism, and other maritime security challenges in these strategic maritime routes. Operation Sankalp was led by the Indian Navy in coordination with relevant departments and agencies.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had conducted Operation Molten Metal in the year 2021. The purpose of this operation was to stop gold smuggling.

Under this operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had identified several Indian and foreign nationals involved in smuggling of gold from Hong Kong to India.

Operation Conviction targets illegal cow slaughter. It involves cooperation between law enforcement agencies, animal welfare groups, and government departments to enforce laws protecting cows. This operation aims to prevent the illegal killing and trade of cows and uphold their cultural and religious significance in India.

Operation Satark, carried out by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), aimed to tackle the smuggling of illegal tobacco and liquor on trains. It began in January 2019 to reduce the unlawful trafficking of these items, ensuring passenger safety and orderliness within the railway system. The operation aimed to deter and capture smugglers, protecting public health and preserving the quality of railway services.

Operation Megha Chakra, started by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in November 2020, aims to stop the spread of child sexual abuse material nationwide. The campaign’s goal is to prevent the circulation of harmful content and protect children’s well-being and rights. It focuses on identifying and catching those involved in creating, distributing, and sharing such material, enforcing laws related to child protection.

Operation Vanilla was an operation launched by the Indian Navy on January 28, 2020. The purpose of this campaign was to provide relief to the people affected by Cyclone Diana and floods in Madagascar.

Operation 25 was initiated to capture Ghazi Rashid, the suspected mastermind of the Pulwama attack. The operation aimed to apprehend Rashid, who was believed to have planned the deadly assault on Indian security forces in February 2019.

The Central Government introduced Operation Greens to stabilize the supply and prices of important perishable crops like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes. This initiative sought to ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their crops while keeping prices affordable for consumers. In addition to these crops, the government expanded its efforts to include 22 more perishable agricultural products, improving the overall efficiency of the program.

Under this scheme, 50% subsidy will be given to Himalayan and North- Eastern states for air transportation of 41 notified fruits and vegetables to any place in the country.

Operation Blue Freedom was initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for monitoring disabled individuals on the Siachen Glacier. This initiative, which commenced in April 2018, aimed to provide support and assistance to disabled persons who participated in expeditions to the Siachen Glacier, one of the world’s highest battlefields. The purpose of Operation Blue Freedom was to ensure the safety and well-being of disabled individuals during such challenging expeditions and to promote their empowerment and inclusion in adventurous activities.

“Operation Narcos” was conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to halt drug smuggling through railways. This initiative was launched to crack down on the illegal trafficking of drugs via railway networks. The primary purpose of Operation Narcos was to intercept and apprehend individuals involved in drug smuggling activities, thereby ensuring the safety and security of railway passengers and preventing the distribution of narcotics.
